Wattage (measured in watts) tells you how much electrical power your amp can push, but it doesn’t scale linearly with how loud the amp sounds to your ears. In audio theory, doubling the wattage only increases the sound pressure level (SPL) by a small amount (roughly +3 dB), not a doubling of loudness.
Clipping (when the waveform is driven beyond what the amp can cleanly reproduce) is actually a common way to get distortion in guitar tone.
Most amplifiers (even small practice ones) have basic tone controls — often bass, mid, treble — which shape how your amplified signal sounds. The "tone stack" in an amp is a filter network that adjusts which frequency bands are emphasized or cut.
Even in a low-power amp, these tone controls are very important, because they let you tweak your sound: brighten it, make it warmer, cut out muddiness, etc. For a beginner especially, this is useful to learn how EQ affects your tone.
The downside of such amps is that their speaker size, build quality, and circuitry are often basic. They may not deliver the richness or depth of tone that larger or higher-wattage amps with bigger speakers produce.
The 30″ scale is tailored for kids or very small players. This makes it physically easier for them to hold, fret, and play, which is extremely important when starting out.
These factors represent the most critical aspects that will impact your satisfaction with this product.
Ordered this as a precursor to getting my daughter a Squire Mini Strat, and i am IMPRESSED by this. Although it does need a few changes, its still a really great product for someone who wants their kids to seriously learn an instrument.
I was worried that I was going to receive a toy instead of something real that my kid could genuinely learn how to play with. When I took the guitar out of that package I was impressed! It’s lightweight which is perfect for my recently turned 4 year old. The string height was perfect, the base was the right size for a kid, and it’s fully functional - very good buy.
