Measurement method: pin-type (requires inserting stainless-steel pins into the material for a direct resistance-based reading).
Material ranges: 5–50% for wood and 1.5–33% for building materials (concrete, drywall) — pick the right interpretation for the substrate.
Readout & alerts: large backlit LCD with 0.3" digits, visual icons and audible tones for Low/Medium/High moisture so you can scan quickly.
Portability & accessories: includes extra 8 mm stainless pins, protective cap/calibration checker and a 9V battery; compact and easy to carry.
The device reports 5–50% for wood and 1.5–33% for building materials. These different scales matter: a reading that’s “high” for drywall may be different than one for green (recently cut) wood. Always interpret results against material-specific thresholds and consider follow-up testing if values are borderline.
These factors represent the most critical aspects that will impact your satisfaction with this product.
I'm a potter with a wood fired kiln in Northern Michigan, and I have to know that my wood is dry, dry, dry: 15% (20% at the very most) moisture content. I've had 2 different moisture meters, and like this one best. It's accurate. Easy to read indoors and outdoors. I've dropped it several times; it didn't break or crack or start acting up. The batteries last a long time, are easy to change, and that little door that holds them in hasn't broken.
The item was received in bad condition. It’s clear that the wrapping had been opened before it was sent to me. It appears as though someone used it and then rewrapped it—poorly.
