Brightness & light output vs. need — It’s more of an ambient lantern than a high-intensity flashlight. Good for lighting up tents or small areas, less suitable if you need a focused beam or long-distance visibility.
Run time & charging method — Solar or USB charging is convenient, but light duration depends on the mode (bright/turbo vs. low).
Weight, size, portability, and storage flexibility — Since it folds flat and is lightweight (about 5 oz / ~140 g), it's very easy to carry in backpacks or emergency kits.
Waterproofing and durability — It’s waterproof (rated up to 1m submersion) and floats, which broadens where you can use it — good for wet conditions, boating, or rainy camping.
Intended use: ambient lantern vs. focused light — Because of its soft, diffused output, it's best for lighting spaces (tents, campsites, camps) rather than for long-range illumination like path-finding.
The most critical consideration is that PackLite is designed as a lantern — i.e. to produce a soft, diffused, ambient light — rather than a high-intensity, focused beam. This makes it excellent for lighting up tents, small rooms or camping areas, but less useful if you require a strong directional light (e.g. for hiking paths, searching, or long-distance visibility). Many reviews highlight this:
These factors represent the most critical aspects that will impact your satisfaction with this product.
This lantern is the smallest lantern I have owned. It is lightweight and packs a bright light that illuminated the whole tent. The solar panel is a high quality and allows for charging even in low light conditions.
Absolutely love this little gadget. I bought this for camping, but with hurricane season coming to the south I will definitely keep this in my night stand in ass we loose power this hurricane season. It packs down so small and you can charge it using a c-port as well as by solar. It provides bright light and depending on how high you want to hang it, it can really throw off a good amount of light!
