Meta Quest 2 is a standalone virtual reality (VR) headset: it contains all necessary hardware (display, processor, sensors, controllers) — no PC or console required. That means you can put it on and start playing VR games, exploring VR worlds, watching 360° content, or using VR apps without needing extra equipment.

Display & Visual Quality — Quest 2 features per-eye resolution of 1832 × 1920 pixels, which delivers sharp visuals compared to many earlier VR headsets.
All-in-One (Standalone) Design — Because all hardware is built-in (processor, sensors, battery), you don’t need a gaming PC or console or external sensors; that lowers the entry cost and simplifies setup.
Tracking & Controllers (6-DoF + Touch Controllers) — The headset offers six-degrees-of-freedom (6 DoF) tracking for head and body movement, plus two motion-tracked handheld controllers — letting you interact naturally, walk around, and perform gestures in VR.
Content Library & Flexibility — Quest 2 supports a wide variety of VR games, fitness apps, experiences, social VR, and more. It also supports PC-VR streaming (via Link cable or wireless streaming) for more demanding titles — giving flexibility if you have a PC.
Built-in Audio & Ergonomics — It includes built-in positional audio (3D spatial sound), and has adjustable straps and options for comfort, making it usable without needing extra headphones (though you can use them).
Because Quest 2 is all-in-one, you don’t need a gaming PC or extra sensors — that makes it much easier and cheaper to get started compared to PC-VR systems. For people without high-powered PCs or who want portability, this is often the biggest advantage. The relatively high per-eye resolution (1832 × 1920) plus smooth refresh rate (up to 90 Hz, sometimes 120 Hz) helps make VR worlds look clear and reduces common VR visual issues (blurriness, motion sickness). Combined with 6DoF tracking and motion controllers, this ensures immersive and interactive VR suitable for gaming, fitness, or exploration.

First, a little background. I'm 73 years old. Above average in the activity department, adept mentally, although I am literally the only person I know who can lose something when standing perfectly still. I have four grandchildren. I hold down a full-time job as a writer, and a once-a-year gig teaching Rio Grande Board Games at the annual World Boardgaming Championships (WBC).
Very cool to use VR goggles! Great selection of games and pretty easy to set up. Best saber is my favorite game for it. If you aren't sure where to start in the VR gaming world this is a good affordable place to start!
